On October 15, 2026, SEO consultant Dan Taylor published an analysis on Search Engine Journal suggesting that Google may release a major update soon. His own prediction model puts the chance of an update within 30 days at 96.8%, and within 90 days at 90.9%. These figures are his estimate and Google has not announced anything, but the reasoning is worth taking seriously.
Google’s last broad core update began in May 2026, the August and September updates were spam-focused, and the company normally runs three to four core updates a year, so the gap is long. The most likely window is late October to mid-November, before the Thanksgiving and Black Friday period.
Taylor compares the expected update to Panda from 2011, which judged whole websites on trust, originality and expertise and not on page length. When a site is assessed that way, weak pages can pull down strong ones. Google’s recent guidance supports the concern: it says AI-generated content should be fact-checked before publishing, names effort, originality, skill and accuracy as quality factors, and treats mass-produced AI content and fake authors, including invented names and AI-generated headshots, as signs of a low-quality page.
For businesses, the practical step is to review content before a rollout instead of recovering from it afterward. Ovelovia’s SEO team can audit your pages for thin or unreviewed content, check author and expertise details, edit AI-assisted articles for accuracy, and monitor rankings during any update. Contact Ovelovia if you would like your website reviewed before the next one arrives.
